Ski & Snowshoe Rentals
Gear Up for Minnesota Cross Country Skiing
Bearskin Lodge has skis and snowshoes available to rent for guests and for day-skiers on the Central Gunflint Trail System. We no longer rent skis to skiers who are staying and skiing in other locations. Skis are available to rent to Bearskin guests and skiers buying tickets to ski on the Central Gunflint Trail System.
Bearskin rents skis for classic-style skiing. We no longer rent skate skis.(These days it seems that skate skiers generally all have their own equipment, so rentals were exceedingly rare.) Check with Golden Eagle for skate ski rentals.
Guest Rentals
Just come to the front desk to arrange your ski rental. We will need to know the shoe size, approximate height and weight, and experience level of each skier. We will let you try on boots in the lodge until you get it right. If you need exchanges, just come back to the desk and we will swap it out until you’re happy with the fit.
For snowshoeing, you will need your own good boots. Sizing for snowshoes is not a precise science, so we will make our best guess, You can exchange them if we don’t get it right the first time.
Day Skiers
Day Skiers skiing on the Central Gunflint Ski Trail System can rent ski equipment at the Main Lodge front desk.
You will need:
- Your shoe size
- Approximate height and weight
- Experience level
Look inside your best-fitting pair of running shoes to get an accurate size. If the Euro size is listed there, that helps too. We have a place where you can try on boots, but it helps if you can narrow the size down first.

About our skis
Bearskin upgraded to all new classic skis and boots in 2023. We are now featuring Atomic “Skin-skis,” a newer technology for classic skis that is replacing fish-scale skis for waxless skiing. Skin-skis outperform fish-scale waxless skis in grip and glide, and perform much more like waxed skis. Even if you have your own classic skis, you might enjoy renting a pair of these new skis to try out the latest ski technology.
